TARVIN ATHLETIC FC MAKE HISTORY IN EUROPE!

Tarvin Athletic FC U10s have returned home victorious from their Easter tour in Spain, creating history for the club with its first ever European win.

Just before the Easter weekend our U10s embarked for Malgrat de Mar, Catalunya in Spain to compete in the Copa Jordi, a three day tournament filled with high quality international teams.

The competition started well for our boys with a flying start on Good Friday, winning convincingly 4-2 in their first game against solid Swiss opposition. The following morning, after a good nights rest, they backed up that win in round 2 with a determined performance, edging a 2-1 win against a gritty French side. Later the same day it was all smiles as they progressed to the semi-final, just before the sun set on a fantastic day of tournament football.

The semi-final was a keenly contested match against another very well organised French side. With some classy play our U10s snatched the lead just before half time with a fantastically well worked corner and a near post volley. In the second half it took a tenacious approach and a lot of resilience and togetherness to not allow the opposition back into the game, and with some determined defending and solid goalkeeping they marched into the final on Easter Sunday.

In an all British affair they lined up against CSA Academy from Northern Ireland. Despite suffering an early set back against the run of play, Tarvin came from behind to equalise almost immediately, with a long range rocket from the half way line right on the stroke of half time.

As expected the second half started at a frenetic pace with neither side giving an inch. However, six minutes in, the deadlock was broken as Tarvin scored their second of the match with an acute shot from the right hand side to take a deserved 2-1 lead.

Despite multiple opposition attacks, Tarvin stood firm with some dogged defending, putting their bodies on the line to hang on to their 2-1 lead.

Euphoria erupted as the final whistle sounded to cries of joy from players, coaches and travelling fans alike. TARVIN AFC U10s, CHAMPIONS OF EUROPE!!!!
